Tratitional sweet tahini pies with carob syrup
- 2 cups (630 gr) tahini
- ¾ cup (140 ml) carob syrup
- 4 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 & ¾ cups (500 g) whole wheat flour + more for dusting
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinammon
- ½ teaspoon mahlepi
- dash of salt
- ½ cup (110 ml) carob syrup
- ½ cup (130ml) coconut milk
- ¼ cup (70ml) olive oil
- 3 tablespoons (20 ml) apple cider vinegar
- INSTRUCTIONS
- Put all the ingredients for the filling in a big bowl and mix with a tablespoon. Refrigerate until you finish with the dough.
- Put all the ingredients for the dough in a bowl. Knead with hands until it becomes nice and soft.
- Divide the dough into 3 equal parts.
- Dust your surface with flour. Take each part and roll it out into long strips approximately 20 x 40 cm.
- Spread 4-5 teaspoons of the filling, sprinkle with some cinnamon and roll, lengthwise.
- Grab one end of the strip and roll it inwards. Press down to slightly flatten it with your palm.
- Take 2 tablespoons of the filling and spread on top of each pie.
- Transfer pies to a baking pan dusted with some flour or use parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes in 180 °C.
